FREE 7/21 MLB Cheat Sheet: Top DFS Plays
July 21, 2024

Today, we have an 11-game MLB slate on DraftKings, starting at 1:05 p.m. ET. Check out my favorite players at each position, value plays, and stacks! Our partners at DFSHero.com provide us access to their lineup optimizer and AI simulator, which we use to provide you with the best DFS plays daily!
SP:
- Kevin Gausman, Toronto Blue Jays (FD:$9,500 | DK:$8,800)
- Seth Lugo, Kansas City Royals (FD:$10,800 | DK:$9,700)
- Christian Scott, New York Mets (FD:$8,100 | DK:$7,600)
Notes: Gausman has a good matchup against the Tigers today and is rated the most optimal pitcher on the DFS Hero Optimizer. The Optimizer also projects the highest ceiling for him of any SP on the slate. Lugo has an excellent matchup today against the White Sox and has been one of the best pitchers in the American League this season. Scott is cheap because he has struggled lately, but his matchup vs. the Marlins, one of baseball’s worst offenses, is too good to pass up on. I also have a value pitcher to check out below.
Top Stacks:
- Philadelphia Phillies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
- Cincinnati Reds vs. Washington Nationals
Notes: The Phillies are the best team in baseball. They have an amazing lineup and a good matchup against Pirates SP Marco Gonzales. The Reds offense can sometimes be inconsistent, but they can help you take down a slate in the right matchup. Today is one of those times. They face Jake Irvin, who has good numbers this season and is one of the higher-priced pitchers on the slate, which should keep their ownership low. Irvin has allowed six ER in each of his past two starts, so it looks like he is unraveling and should be targeted in DFS.
C:
- J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$2,600 | DK:$4,500)
- Tyler Stephenson, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$2,900 | DK:$3,900)
- Adley Rustchman, Baltimore Orioles (FD:$3,500 | DK:$5,400)
Notes: Adley has continued where he left off before the all-star break and is one of the best options at catcher every day. Stephenson is cheap and can be used in the Reds stack today. Realmuto was just activated from the IL, and he is immediately one of the best catchers in DFS again. The Optimizer also likes him today, projecting him for the highest ceiling of any player at the C position.
1B:
- Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$4,000 | DK:$5,700)
- Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore Orioles (FD:$3,000 | DK:$4,100)
- Jeimer Candelario, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$3,100 | DK:$4,600)
Notes: I really like Harper and Candelario today, as they are part of my stop stacks. The DFS Hero Simulator agrees with me, as they have Harper and Candelario ranked as the top two players at 1B today. Mountcastle is the fourth-ranked 1B on the Simulator and has a 31.9% chance to 3X today.
2B:
- Jonathan India, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$3,200 | DK:$4,500)
- Bryson Stott, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$3,000 | DK:$4,700)
- Brooks Lee, Minnesota Twins (FD:$2,900 | DK:$4,000)
Notes: Stott can be used in the Phillies stack, so if that’s where you want to go today, you should consider him. The Optimizer has India and Lee, who have both been hitting very well lately, projected to be under 5% owned today, which should give you leverage in a tournament.
3B:
- Alec Bohm, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$3,400 | DK:$5,400)
- Mark Vientos, New York Mets (FD:$3,200 | DK:$4,500)
- Jake Burger, Miami Marlins (FD:$2,900 | DK:$3,400)
Notes: Bohm is an excellent hitter who hits LHP very well and can be used in the Phillies stack. Vientos has hit for a lot of power since being promoted to the big leagues, and he has a platoon advantage today. The Simulator gives him a 25% chance to 3X. Burger is the top-ranked 3B on the Simulator today. He has been hot at the plate and remains very cheap. He has a 34% chance to 3X and a 26.9% chance to 3.5X.
SS:
- Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$4,100 | DK:$5,800)
- Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers (FD:$3,200 | DK:$4,400)
- Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$4,300 | DK:$6,300)
Notes: Elly is the top-ranked SS on the Optimizer today, but his ownership percentage is extremely high, so I would stay away from him unless you are stacking Reds or playing in cash games. Turner also has high projected ownership, but like Elly, if you are playing in cash games or stacking Phillies, you should be playing him. Adames has been red hot in July, so he has been on my radar for weeks. The Optimizer also projects him to be owned under 3% today, which gives you nice leverage compared to Elly and Turner.
OF:
- Kyle Schwarber, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$3,900 | DK:$5,500)
- Spencer Steer, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$3,800 | DK:$5,000)
- Nick Castellanos, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$2,900 | DK:$4,300)
- Rece Hinds, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$3,500 | DK:$4,200)
- Anthony Santander, Baltimore Orioles (FD:$3,600 | DK:$4,800)
- Richard Palacios, Tampa Bay Rays (FD:$2,700 | DK:$3,400)
Notes: The top four players listed can all be used in my top stacks today. Schwarber and Castellanos are also ranked high on the Simulator today. Santander is having a career season and has been great so far this weekend, so I am looking for him to continue that today. The Simulator loves Palacios today, ranking him as the number one OF option, giving him a 34% chance to 3X and a 26% chance to 3.5X.
Value Players:
- SP Shane Baz, Tampa Bay Rays (FD:$7,900 | DK:$6,900)
- 1B Rowdy Tellez, Pittsburgh Pirates (FD:$2,800 | DK:$3,300)
- 3B Noelvi Marte, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$2,800 | DK:$3,300)
- OF Jake Fraley, Cincinnati Reds (FD:$2,800 | DK:$3,200)
Notes: Fraley and Marte are cheap options in the Reds stack today. Tellez has been an RBI machine over his past 10 games, and Baz has big strikeout potential vs. a struggling Yankees lineup.
