FREE 8/9 MLB Cheat Sheet: Top DFS Plays
August 9, 2024

Today, we have a massive 13-game MLB slate on DraftKings, starting at 7:05 p.m. ET. Check out my favorite players at each position, value plays, and stacks! Our partners at DFSHero.com provide us with access to their lineup optimizer and AI simulator, which we use to provide you with the best DFS plays every day!
SP:
Jack Flaherty, Los Angeles Dodgers (FD:$11,100 | DK:$10,500)
Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies (FD:$10,100 | DK:$10,200)
Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox (FD:$9,900 | DK:$9,400)
Robbie Ray, San Francisco Giants (FD:$8,900 | DK:$8,600)
Notes: Flaherty is the number-one ranked SP today on the DFS Hero Optimizer. Ray, Crochet, and Wheeler all have positive leverage scores and lower projected ownership than Flaherty, though. I have a value pitcher in the values section that can help you save money if you don’t want to spend up on two big SPs.
Top Stacks:
Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies
Kansas City Royals vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves
Notes: The Coors stack must be played. If it hits and you don’t have it, you won’t win. The Braves definitely are the better team to stack in that game, but they will also be the more heavily owned team. The Royals lineup has been great recently, and they have a good matchup against Miles Mikolas, who has a 5.12 ERA this season.
C:
Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals (FD:$3,200 | DK:$5,100)
Sean Murphy, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,200 | DK:$4,000)
Connor Wong, Boston Red Sox (FD:$3,000 | DK:$3,700)
Notes: Wong is the number-one catcher on the DFS Hero Optimizer tonight. He hits in the middle of the Red Sox lineup so there is always a good chance that he produces. Murphy and Perez are the top options at catcher in my stacks, but you can also look at d’Arnaud on the Braves and Fermin on the Royals.
1B:
Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves (FD:$4,800 | DK:$5,300)
Vinnie Pasquantino, Kansas City Royals (FD:$3,900 | DK:$4,800)
Michael Toglia., Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,500 | DK:$4,200)
Vlad Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays (FD:$3,500 | DK:$5,200)
Notes: The first three guys are part of my favorite stacks. Vladdy is listed here because he is on a 20-game hitting streak right now, and no one is hitting better than he is. He is also the fourth-ranked 1B on the DFS Hero Optimizer tonight. The Optimizer likes Ohtani and Jake Cronenworth, too.
2B:
Michael Massey, Kansas City Royals (FD:$2,700 | DK:$3,200)
Nolan Gorman, St. Louis Cardinals (FD:$3,300 | DK:$3,300)
Brendan Rodgers, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,400 | DK:$3,800)
Notes: Massey should be used if you are stacking Royals. If you aren’t then one of Gorman or Rodgers is interesting. Gorman is the third-ranked 2B on the DFS Hero Simulator tonight and has a 34% chance to 3X. Rodgers can be used in a Rockies stack and the Simulator gives him a 31% chance to 3X. I also have a value 2B tonight that can be used in the Braves stack.
3B:
Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,600 | DK:$4,300)
Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,600 | DK:$5,500)
Patrick Wisdom, Chicago Cubs (FD:$2,400 | DK:$3,400)
Notes: The DFS Hero Simulator gives Wisdom a 35 % chance to 3X tonight, and he is ranked as the fourth-best 3B. Riley and McMahon are two of the better hitters on their teams, so they should be considered in a Coors stack.
SS:
Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals (FD:$4,400 | DK:$6,400)
Francisco Lindor, New York Mets (FD:$4,500 | DK:$5,500)
Ezequiel Tovar, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,700 | DK:$4,600)
Notes: Lindor is the number one ranked SS on the DFS Hero Optimizer tonight. Witt Jr. is the number two ranked SS on the DFS Hero Optimizer tonight. Tovar is the number four ranked SS on the Optimizer tonight. Tovar and Witt Jr. can be used in my top stacks as well.
OF:
Marcell Ozuna, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,900 | DK:$6,000)
Brenton Doyle, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,900 | DK:$5,100)
Jorge Soler, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,800 | DK:$5,000)
Charlie Blackmon, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,200 | DK:$4,500)
Jarred Kelenic, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,300 | DK:$3,900)
Hunter Renfroe, Kansas City Royals (FD:$2,900 | DK:$3,800)
MJ Melendez, Kansas City Royals (FD:$2,900 | DK:$3,200)
Notes: These are all of my favorite OF options in my stacks tonight. The Simulator ranks both Ozuna and Soler as top ten OF options tonight. The other Braves OF listed, Kelenic, is being given a 33% chance to 3X tonight. Outside of my stacks, the Simulator is high on Ohtani, Buxton, Robert, and Schwarber.
Value Players:
SP Martin Perez, San Diego Padres (FD:$2,700 | DK:$6,200)
C Elias Diaz, Colorado Rockies (FD:$3,000 | DK:$3,400)
2B/OF Whit Merrifield, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,300 | DK:$3,400)
3B/OF Miguel Vargas, Chicago White Sox (FD:$3,100 | DK:$2,800)
OF Eddie Rosario, Atlanta Braves (FD:$3,300 | DK:$3,600)
Notes: Merrifield, Rosario, and Diaz are cheap options in my stacks tonight. Perez has been pitching well since joining the Padres and has a great matchup tonight against the Marlins. Vargas is well-liked by the DFS Hero Simulator tonight. They give him a 45% chance to 3X and a 37% chance to 3.5X.
