FREE 8/20 MLB Cheat Sheet: Top DFS Plays
August 20, 2024

Today, we have a 13-game MLB slate on DraftKings, starting at 7:05 p.m. ET. Check out my favorite players at each position, value plays, and stacks! Our partners at DFSHero.com provide us with access to their lineup optimizer and AI simulator, which we use to provide you with the best DFS plays every day!
SP:
Cole Ragans, Royals (DK: $9,500 | FD: $10,800)
Zack Wheeler, Phillies (DK: $9,300 | FD: $10,500)
Robbie Ray, Giants (DK: $8,600 | FD: $9,700)
Notes: These are the top three projected pitchers. Ray has the most projected value but also the most projected ownership. I like Ragans the most, though, as I think he will mow past a weak Angel lineup. Wheeler faces the Braves, who lost Austin Riley for 6-8 weeks.
Stacks:
Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Angels
San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago White Sox
Chicago White Sox vs. San Francisco Giants
Notes: The Royals are projected to score the most runs, according to the Optimizer. The Giants have a great matchup vs. the White Sox and a terrible pen. Look for Sox SP Davis Martin to come back down to Earth and give up a bunch of runs. The White Sox do have the highest stack value. Their lineup is cheap to roster, and if they do hit, they will take down contests like they did a week ago vs. the Yankees. Play them in high-entry contests and lineups that you do not roster Ray as a starting pitcher.
C:
Cal Raleigh, Mariners (DK: $4,500 | FD: $3,200)
J.T. Realmuto, Phillies (DK: $4,400 | FD: $3,000)
Notes: Raleigh is projected as the top-scoring catcher and can dominate the slate at that position. Realmuto has not had a great season but is projected to be third in points. The good news is that we aren’t spending up for the overpriced catchers.
1B:
Bryce Harper, Phillies (DK: $5,500 | FD: $3,900)
Carlos Santana, Twins (DK: $3,800 | FD: $3,100)
Notes: Harper is projected to be second in scoring behind Shoehei Ohtani but has much more projected value, according to the optimizer. Look at Santana, though, who is projected to finish 4th in first base scoring and is under 4K.
2B:
Marcus Semien, Rangers (DK: $4,800 | FD: $3,200)
Brandon Lowe, Rays (DK: $4,800 | FD: $3,500)
Notes: The DFS Hero Optimizer projects Semien to be the highest-scoring second basemen while Lowe is projected third. Both have prices that won’t break the bank.
3B:
Royce Lewis, Twins (DK: $5,600 | FD: $3,700)
Manny Machado, Padres (DK: $5,100 | FD: $3,400)
Notes: The optimizer projects Machado to lead all third basemen in points. I personally like Lewis as I have a feeling that he has a multi-hit night with one going out of the park.
SS:
Corey Seager, Rangers (DK: $5,300 | FD: $3,600)
Tyler Fitzgerald, Giants (DK: $5,200 | FD: $3,500)
Notes: Seager is projected to be second in scoring, according to the optimizer. He has the best value among the top-priced shortstops and will dominate my lineups. Fitzgerald is in a great spot for a team that is projected to score the second-most number of runs.
OF:
Julio Rodriguez, Mariners (DK: $4,800 | FD: $3,000)
Randy Arozarena, Mariners (DK: $4,600 | FD: $3,000)
Luis Robert, White Sox (DK: $4,300 | FD: $3,300)
Adolis Garcia, Rangers (DK: $4,200 | FD: $3,200)
Daulton Varsho, Blue Jays (DK: $3,900 | FD: $2,800)
Notes: The top outfielders are overpriced with little projected value. These are the top-valued mid-priced players projected to have under 10% ownership. Rodriguez and Arozarena would make a good stack with Cal Raleigh. A Garcia, Seager, and Semien stack looks tasty as well.
Value Players:
3B Jace Jung, Tigers (DK: $2,200 | FD: $2,300)
1B Tyler Black, Brewers (DK: $2,500 | FD: $2,400)
3B/SS Junior Caminero, Rays (DK: $3,100 | FD: $2,400)
OF Parker Meadows, Tigers (DK: $3,300 | FD: $2,800)
2B Thairo Estrada, Giants (DK: $3,700 | FD: $2,400)
2B Gleyber Torres, Yankees (DK: $3,800 | FD: $2,700)
SP Javier Assad, Cubs (DK: $6,900 | FD: $7,400)
SP Frankie Montas, Brewers (DK: $7,000 | FD: $7,900)
SP Shane Baz, Rays (DK: $7,600 | FD: $8,100)
Notes: The DFS Optimizer projects these players as among the most valued players at their positions. I really like Shane Baz to shut down the Athletics tonight.
