A playbook is a saved plan for one sport, one site, and one contest mode. It chains your build settings, the sim, lineup selection, entry fill, and export into one run. Create it once, then run it on any slate of that sport and site, by hand or as a cloud build that fires before lock.
Power plan. Playbooks, cloud builds, and the Playbooks library need an active Power subscription.
What a playbook stores
Five stages, in the order they run:
| Stage | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Build & Sim or Build Only | The build mode, the lineups per run, the stacking choice, and every Build Settings value. |
| Select | The selection mode, the rank metric, and whether the kept count matches your uploaded entries. |
| Fill | Whether the run fills your entries, in which contest order, and whether lineups can repeat. |
| Export | Whether a browser run downloads the CSV and opens the site's upload page. |
| Guardrails | Checks that stop the run, skip the fill, or notify you when a number drifts. |
Player groups, team limits, and locked or excluded players stay with the slate. A playbook carries no schedule either; you schedule it per slate from the Day View.
Two ways a playbook runs
In the browser. Open a slate, pick the playbook from the Playbook dropdown, and click Run Playbook. See Run a playbook in the browser.
In the cloud. From the Day View, pick a lead time of 5 to 30 minutes before lock and click Schedule. The build runs on DFS Hero's side, even with the app closed, and lands as a build tab in the slate's workspace. See Schedule a cloud build.
A playbook run has no AI step. Each run follows the saved plan; your randomness settings still vary the lineups, as in a normal build.
Playbook vs template
A template stores build settings only. A playbook adds the sim, the selection, the fill, and the export, and only a playbook can be scheduled.
How playbooks connect to the rest of DFS Hero
- Build Settings: Advanced builder settings inside a playbook is the workspace Build Settings sheet.
- Entries Preview: the Fill stage uses the same allocation as the Fill button.
- Replay: Replay on past slates scores the playbook against archived slates with real results. See Replay.
- Hero Chat: Hero Chat can create a playbook from a chat proposal. See Create a playbook.
Limits
- Essential builds up to 500 lineups per build. Power builds up to 10,000. The editor caps Lineups per run at your plan's limit.
- Sport, site, and mode lock after the first save. To change them, duplicate the playbook and edit the copy.
- Scheduled runs skip the Export stage. Download the CSV from the Entries page or the Mission Report.
