Run a playbook in the browser

Last updated Oct 13, 2026

A browser run executes a playbook on the open slate, in your tab, with the same builder the Build button uses. Mission Control follows the run stage by stage. When it finishes, the pool is in the build tab you ran it from, the kept set is in Entries Preview, and the filled entries are on the Entries view.

Power plan. Playbooks and Mission Control need an active Power subscription.

Before you start

Step by step

  1. In the workspace toolbar, click Playbook. The dropdown lists the playbooks that match the slate's sport, site, and mode; the default carries a star.

  2. Click a playbook. The Build button becomes Run Playbook, or Re-run Playbook on a build tab that already holds lineups.

  3. Click Run Playbook. Mission Control opens over the workspace. On a build tab that already holds lineups, Re-run Playbook first opens the Re-run playbook? dialog: the new run replaces the tab's lineups and its sim results, and the replacement cannot be undone. Click Cancel to keep them, or Re-run Playbook to go on.

  4. Watch the build. The headline names the stage, and the status pill at the top shows the run's percent and time. The stages of your playbook run down the left side, each with what it made so far. The Lineups bar fills as lineups are built, with the count on the bar. If the settings are wrong, click Cancel build now; the lineups built so far are kept.

  5. Watch the simulation. A Build & Sim playbook simulates once per contest in your entries file. The contests being simulated are tinted and show a moving bar, and each row turns Done as its sim finishes. Cancel run stops the run here.

  6. To keep working while the run continues, click Minimize, press Escape, or click the backdrop. Mission Control collapses to a corner pill that keeps the headline and the percent in view. Click the pill to bring it back.

  7. When the pill reads Complete, read the report. The stages show how many lineups were built, how many contests were simulated, how many lineups were kept, how many entries were filled, and whether the CSV saved. The Lineups bar splits into the lineups kept (green) and the rest. Each contest row shows its ROI, Cash, Top 1%, and Win, the entries filled, and how the run picked them. Exposures has two tabs. Your entries shows the top exposures, top stacks, and top teams of the lineups the run put in your entries, each beside its Pool figure in its own column. Pool shows the same for the whole build. A run with no entries to fill shows Kept lineups in the first tab. Top teams shows on a slate of more than one game. Share at the right of the tabs makes an image of the tab on screen, to copy or download. Run notes lists anything the run skipped or a guardrail that tripped.

If the pill reads Not filled, the run picked lineups and the site could not take them. The headline reads Entries not filled and the line under it says why, for example "The slate locked at 1:00 PM ET, before the fill." Each contest row then shows the lineups the run picked for it, marked Not entered, with their ROI, Cash, Top 1%, and Win. The first Exposures tab reads Picked lineups and summarizes those lineups. The lineups stay in the build, so you can open them with View lineups.

  8. Use the buttons beside the headline: View entries opens Entries Preview, Download CSV saves the file again, and Open DraftKings or Open FanDuel opens the site's upload page. When the browser blocked the automatic upload tab, a notice in the report says so and holds the same button. Close Mission Control with the X in the header.

  9. Back in the workspace, the build tab you ran it from is labeled with the run's time and lineup count. The toolbar button now reads Re-run Playbook. Run report, beside the Playbook picker, opens the report again.

How it works

The Build stage runs with the playbook's settings, not the slate's Build Settings sheet; slate-specific items such as player groups and locks still come from the slate. Build & Sim simulates once per contest in your entries file. The Select stage keeps one lineup per uploaded entry when Match my entries is on, or the Keep exactly count otherwise. The Fill stage assigns the kept lineups in the playbook's contest order, and the Export stage downloads the CSV and opens the upload page, each when the playbook's Export section has it on.

The build tab holds the whole pool, not only the kept set, so you can trim and re-sort after the run. The Fill stage writes every entry it can fill, including an entry another build filled, the same as the Fill button.

The Day View also runs a playbook: open the more menu on a slate, choose Run Playbook, and pick one. The slate shows the run's progress in place of its buttons; tap it to reopen Mission Control.

Tips

  • Set the playbook as the default for the sport and site. It then sits at the top of the picker and is the one Auto-schedule uses.
  • Run the playbook in a fresh build tab (Add new build next to the build chips) when the slate already holds a filled build.
  • After a run, trim or re-sort in the lineups panel. The kept set is in Entries Preview; the full pool stays in the panel. See Edit the pool.
  • Allow pop-ups for DFS Hero once. The upload page then opens on its own.

Troubleshooting

"Your browser blocked the DraftKings upload page from opening automatically." (or FanDuel) : a pop-up blocker refused the tab. Click Open DraftKings or Open FanDuel on the report; the CSV is already downloaded.

"Couldn't start the build" with "Try again in a moment." : the build did not start after several automatic tries, and no lineup was built. Close Mission Control and run again. Lower Lineups per run in the editor if it repeats.

"Player pool is empty. Reset your exclusions in the Pool menu." : every player is excluded. Open the grid's more menu, reset the exclusions, and run again.

"This playbook needs reconfiguration before it can run" : the playbook's stored settings could not be read. Open it from the library, set the stages, and save. The picker marks such a playbook with Needs setup.

"No playbooks yet. Create one to automate your builds." : the account has no playbook. Click Manage Playbooks and create one.

"No Classic playbooks for this sport and site. Create one to use it here." (or Showdown) : your playbooks are for another sport, site, or mode. Duplicate one and change the values in the copy.

"Couldn't load your playbooks. Reopen this menu to retry." : close the picker and open it again.

"Run canceled" with "Lineups already built were kept. Check the lineups panel for any partial pool." : you canceled the run. The partial pool is in the lineups panel.

"Run failed" with another message : the message names the failing step. Fix the cause it names and click Re-run Playbook.
