New Playbook in the Playbooks library opens a five-step interview that asks what you play and how many lineups you want, then hands you a ready playbook in the editor. You can also describe the playbook in plain words, start from a blank editor, save one from a build you like, or ask Hero Chat.
Power plan. Playbooks need an active Power subscription.
Before you start
- Pick the sport, site, and mode. A playbook covers one of each, and they lock after the first save. See What is a playbook.
- Know the Build Settings sheet. See Build Settings overview.
Path 1: the five-step interview
-
Open Playbooks in the top navigation, or click Manage Playbooks in the workspace Playbook dropdown.
-
Click New Playbook.
-
What are you building for? Pick a Sport tile and a Site tile, then click Continue.
-
What are you playing? Pick Cash, GPP Single Entry, GPP Multi-Entry, or GPP Mass Multi-Entry, then click Continue.
-
How many lineups per run? Pick a count. The count your style suggests is marked "recommended"; counts above your plan's build limit are not offered. Click Continue.
-
When it finishes, what should happen? Pick Fill my entries and export or Keep a pool for me to review, then click Continue.
-
Name it. Type a name or keep the suggested one, then click Review my playbook.
-
The editor opens with every stage filled in. Change what you want, then click Save Playbook (Cmd+S or Ctrl+S also saves).
-
On the Playbook saved screen, click Go to your playbooks, or See how it would have done to replay it on past slates.
On a card step, press the card's digit to select it and Enter to continue.
Each style card picks one of the four presets, which set the build mode, the recommended count, and the selection mode. The count you pick in step 5 overrides the recommended count, and Keep a pool for me to review removes the Fill stage. See Starter playbooks.
Path 2: Describe it instead
-
Start the interview and click Describe it instead in the top right.
-
Type what you want, for example "NFL GPP, ceiling-focused, force low-owned players". The example chips above the box give you a starting sentence.
-
Pick the Sport and Site tiles.
-
Click Draft my playbook (Cmd+Enter or Ctrl+Enter also submits).
Wait for the draft to open in the editor, then review every stage. The description can set the build mode, the lineup count, the selection mode, auto-fill, and a few advanced settings such as a max exposure cap or a Smart Randomness tier. The saved playbook runs with no AI step.
Path 3: Skip to the editor
Click Skip to the editor in the top right of the interview. The editor opens blank: NFL, DraftKings, Classic, Build & Sim, your plan's build limit in lineups (10,000 on Power), fill and export on, no guardrails. Set the top card, then work down the stages. See The playbook editor.
Path 4: Save as playbook from a build
-
Open a slate, click Build, and set up the build the way you want it.
-
Click the playbook icon in the sheet header and choose Save as playbook. The same item is in the lineups panel actions menu after a build.
-
Type a Playbook name. The dialog lists what will not travel under "Not saved to this playbook (slate-specific)".
-
Click Save playbook.
The new playbook takes the build mode, lineup count, and settings of the sheet. Open it from the library to set the Select, Fill, Export, and Guardrails stages.
Path 5: from Hero Chat
Ask Hero Chat, for example "Create an NFL DraftKings playbook for 20-max GPPs with 3,000 lineups". Hero answers with a proposal card. Click Confirm, and the saved playbook opens in the editor. The card sets the build mode, lineup count, selection mode, and auto-fill; set the advanced settings in the editor. See Meet Hero Chat.
Tips
- Name the playbook after the contest it serves, not the slate. "NFL GPP 20-max" still makes sense next season; "Week 1 build" does not.
- Make one playbook per contest type you play. A cash playbook and a GPP playbook beat one playbook that tries to do both.
- The interview arms no stack rule. The Cash style turns the Correlation dial off; the other styles keep it at Auto. To stack a set shape, open Advanced builder settings in the Build stage and arm a stack rule.
- Replay a new playbook before you schedule it. A record on the card tells you the plan holds up on real slates.
Troubleshooting
"Pick one to continue" : you have not selected a card on this step. Click a card, then Continue.
"Could not draft a playbook from that. Try rewording it or answer the questions instead." : Hero could not turn your description into settings. Add the contest type and a lineup count, or use the interview.
"Too many requests. Please try again later." : you sent more than 5 drafts in one minute. Wait a minute and try again.
"Discard unsaved changes?" : you left the editor before saving. Click Keep editing to stay or Discard changes to drop the draft.
"No replayable NFL slates yet" on the Playbook saved screen : Replay has no scored slate for the sport yet. The playbook is saved and runs normally.
