A boost is a quick opinion on one player. Each step moves the player's projection by 5%, up to three steps up with the fire icon or three steps down with the ice icon. The optimizer uses the boosted number on the next build, and the simulator scores your lineups with it. A boost sits on top of the projection, so it survives a projection refresh, a Blend, and an upload. Use it when you lean on a player and do not want to type a number.
Before you start
- Open a slate and find the Players panel. See Read the player grid.
- Boosts are per build tab, like locks and excludes. A new build tab copies the active tab's boosts along with its other player edits. Use Clear boosts for a clean start.
- A boost changes the next build only. After a build, change the step and click Rebuild.
Boost or dock one player
The Boost column sits right of Name. Each row holds an ice icon and a fire icon.
- Click the fire icon. The player is boosted one step, and the fire icon lights up with the step count on its corner.
- Click the fire icon again for a second and a third step.
- Click the ice icon to dock the player one step. On a boosted player, the ice icon moves the step back toward zero.
- Click past the third step to clear the boost.
The row shows the result at once:
| Column | What changes |
|---|---|
| Hero Proj | Shows the boosted number, tinted warm for a boost and cool for a dock. Hover the cell to read the base number, the boosted number, and the step. |
| My Proj | Shows your projection times the multiplier, tinted warm or cool the same way. |
| Value | Recomputed from the boosted projection. |
| Floor and Ceiling | Move by the same amount as the projection. |
| Optimal and Lev | Do not change. The simulation computed them before any boost. |
| Steps | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| +3 | 1.15 |
| +2 | 1.10 |
| +1 | 1.05 |
| -1 | 0.95 |
| -2 | 0.90 |
| -3 | 0.85 |
The same ice and fire icons sit on the player card in card view and in the player details card. On a phone the grid has no Boost column; use the card or the details card.
Boost or dock several players at once
- Click Select next to the Players title.
- Narrow the grid if you want: pick a position tab, or set a value filter.
- Tick the players, or tick the header box to tick every row on screen.
- Click Boost or Dock in the bar at the bottom. Every ticked player moves one step, and Select mode closes. For a second step, click Select, tick the players again, and click Boost again.
Every action leaves Select mode. Boost and Dock show an Undo link for ten seconds. On a phone the two actions sit behind More as Boost one step and Dock one step. To boost a whole team, click the filter icon on the team's card in the games strip, tick the header box, and click Boost.
How it works
- Each step is 5% of the projection. Three steps up is 1.15 times the projection; three steps down is 0.85 times.
- The boost sits on top of Projection Source. Under Hero Projection the build uses Hero Proj times the multiplier. Under My Projection it uses My Proj times the multiplier. On a past slate scored with Actuals, the boost does nothing.
- The step is stored on its own, and the projection stays as it was. A projection refresh, a Projection Hub upload, a Blend, a Mins edit, and a switch of Projection Source all keep the boost.
- A number you type into My Proj clears the step. The typed number is your final number.
- On a showdown slate the base row and the CPT or MVP row move together. The captain seat scores 1.5 times the boosted number.
- An excluded player cannot be boosted; the icons are disabled until you include the player again, and the old step comes back with the player. A player with a Hero Proj of 0 cannot be boosted.
- A locked player who is docked stays in every lineup. The lock wins.
- A dock can push a player under Min Player Projection, the Proj floor in the Basic tab's Player Floors. DFS Hero warns you at once, and the player leaves the next build unless the player is locked, has a Min Exp above 0, or fills a roster slot the floor would leave short. See Projections and ownership.
- The simulator centers the player on the boosted number, so a boost moves your lineups' scores and every metric that reads them. The simulated field still rosters players from DFS Hero's numbers, so your boost never changes what your opponents play.
- A cloud build scheduled from the workspace carries the tab's boosts, the same way it carries locks and exposure limits. A Playbook run on a different slate carries no boosts.
- The Swap sheet solves late swaps with the projection edits of the build tab in its Build settings, boosts included. That is the active tab unless you pick another. See Run a late swap.
- Hero Chat can set a step for you. "Boost Mahomes two steps" or "Dock Hill one step" arrives as an Apply exposures card. "Clear the boost on Mahomes" sets it back to zero. See Hero Chat prompts.
- Export CSV in the grid's more menu writes the boosted Hero Proj, My Proj, and Value columns, plus a Boost column with the step.
Clear boosts
- One player: click past the third step, or step back with the other icon.
- Every boost on the build: open the Filters popover and click Clear boosts in the Pool section. The row shows how many players carry a step. There is no confirm dialog.
- Reset all player edits in the same section clears boosts along with every other per-player edit.
Tips
- Use a boost for a lean and My Proj for a number. A boost keeps following DFS Hero's projection as it refreshes; a typed number does not.
- Boost a player when you want more of that player, and lock the player when you want them in every lineup. A boost keeps the optimizer free to choose.
- Dock a player when you want less of that player, and exclude the player when you want none. A dock of three steps cuts the projection by 15%, and the player can still make lineups at a good price.
- Check the Clear boosts count in the Filters popover before every rebuild. A step from last night is easy to forget.
- Boost and dock with Select on a game's players after news lands. Then sort by Hero Proj to check the new order.
Troubleshooting
"<player> now projects below Min Player Projection (<floor>) and will be left out of builds. Lower it in Settings to keep them.": the dock pushed the player under the Proj floor. Lower the floor in Player Floors on the Basic tab, lock the player, or accept that the player leaves the pool.
The ice and fire icons are greyed out: the player is excluded, or DFS Hero projects the player at 0. Include the player first.
I do not see the Boost column: the column shows before a build, on a device with a mouse. After a build, open the player details card to change the step, then rebuild. On a phone, use the card.
My boost did not change the lineups: the build ran before the boost. Click Rebuild.
