Build Settings is the sheet where you tell the optimizer what kind of lineups to make. Every build starts here.
Before you start
- Open a slate from the Day View. See Open and manage slate tabs.
- Review the Player Pool first. Locks, exclusions, and projection edits live there. See Read the player grid.
Step by step
- Click Build in the workspace toolbar. On a build that already ran, the button reads Rebuild.
- Set the tabs you want. Most first builds only touch the Basic tab.
- Pick a lineup count in the footer. A new build tab starts at your plan's cap.
- Click Build in the footer. The sheet closes and the lineups panel shows the build progress.
You can also open the sheet from Open Build Settings in the empty lineups panel, or from the build icon on a slate in the Day View.

How it works
Build Only and Build & Sim
Build Only runs the optimizer and lands the lineups with projection, salary, and ownership. Simulate the pool later from the lineups panel's Simulate button.
Build & Sim runs the optimizer once, then simulates the whole pool against every scenario on the Sim tab. The lineups land with ROI, Win%, Cash%, and the Top 0.1%, 1%, and 5% rates. Switch modes with Build Mode on the Basic tab.
How settings are saved
Every setting belongs to the current build tab. DFS Hero saves it as you change it and restores it on a reload or on another device. A new build tab starts with a copy of the active tab's settings, so you can vary one thing and compare.
To carry a setup to every slate of a sport and site, save it as a template. See Templates.
Opening the sheet after a build changes nothing. Only Rebuild replaces the pool, and a warning above the button says so first.
Rebuild a build that a playbook made
When you run a saved playbook from the workspace, the sheet names it: Built by the playbook {name}. While the settings in the sheet still match the ones the playbook used, it also reads Matches this build, and Rebuild runs the playbook again with its current settings. If the playbook has a Fill block, that run fills your entries too.
Change any setting and the sheet reads Changed since this build. Rebuild then builds with the settings in the sheet, and the playbook and its fill do not run. Press Load to put back the settings the playbook used, and Rebuild runs the playbook again.
A build from a scheduled or automatic cloud run shows no Matches or Changed line. Its Rebuild runs the playbook again, and the playbook's saved settings take priority over the settings in the sheet. To build with the settings in the sheet instead, press the button under the warning: Rebuild with the settings above, no fill for a playbook with a Fill block, or Rebuild with the settings above instead. That build does not run the playbook or its fill. Either rebuild replaces your current lineups.
Tips
- Read the Active: strip before every build. It is the fastest way to catch a stack rule or a cap left over from the last slate.
- With an entries file uploaded, leave Build & Sim on. One click builds the pool and simulates your contests.
Troubleshooting
"Pool too small. {count}/{rosterSize} roster slots. Reset exclusions in the Pool menu." : you excluded so many players that fewer remain than roster spots. Open the Player Pool filters and use All players (reset).
"Loading your plan limits." : the sheet is still reading your plan. The count field and the build button unlock in a moment.
"Scheduling requires a Power subscription." : a lead time is selected on an account without Power. Pick Now.
"Replaces your current lineups. This can’t be undone." : the warning above Rebuild. Add a new build tab first if you want to keep the current pool.
"Rebuilds with the settings above. The playbook {name} and its fill do not run. Replaces your current lineups. This can’t be undone." : you changed a setting on a build that a playbook made. Press Load in the status line if you want the playbook to run again.
"Re-runs the playbook {name}. Its saved settings take priority over the settings above." : the build came from a scheduled or automatic cloud run. Press the button under the warning if you want your changes in the sheet to decide the build.
"Building isn't supported for this sport/site yet." : the sport and site combination has no builder. See Supported sports and sites.
