Every slate you open gets its own tab in the top bar. The tab holds the workspace for that slate: the Player Pool, the Contests panel, the Lineups panel, and the build controls. Keep several slates open at once, switch between them, and come back to them later on the same device.
Before you start
- Find your slate on the Day View. See Day View.
- Know which formats your sport supports. See Supported sports and sites.
Step by step
- On the Day View, click Open on the slate, or click anywhere on its row.
- Wait for the Player Pool to fill. The tab shows the site, the sport, the slate name, and the lock time.
- Click Games in the workspace toolbar to show or hide the game strip.
- Point at a game card in the strip. Filter and exclude icons take the place of each team's implied total, and a boost stepper per team appears at the bottom.
- Click the filter icon on each team. The Player Pool shows only that game's players.
- Click the same icon again to stop filtering.
- Click the plus button next to the tabs to open another slate. A New Slate tab opens with the slate picker.
- Pick a sport, a site, and a slate.
- Drag a tab left or right to put the tabs in your own order. On a phone, hold the tab still for a moment, then drag it. The order stays after a reload.
- Click the X on a tab to close it. Your settings, lineups, and entries for the slate stay saved. A tab with a pin in place of the X belongs to a slate where you uploaded entries, and it cannot close.
Every control
The top bar
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Date button | Opens the calendar. Tabs belong to a date. Change the date to see that date's tabs. |
| Day View button (grid icon) | Shows the Day View for the selected date. The open tabs stay loaded behind it. |
| Drag a tab | Reorders the tabs. On a phone, hold the tab still first. |
| Close tab (X on a tab) | Closes the tab. Closing the last tab returns you to the Day View. |
| Pinned tab (pin in place of the X) | A slate where you uploaded entries for the date. Pinned tabs sit first, in lock order, and cannot close or move. A pinned slate you have not opened yet loads its workspace on the first click. The pin goes when the slate has no entries. |
| Add new tab (plus) | Opens a New Slate tab with the slate picker. Disabled while an empty tab already exists. |
The workspace toolbar
| Control | What it does |

| Games | Shows or hides the game strip. Absent for golf, tennis, F1, NASCAR, and MMA. |
| Upload icon | Uploads your entries CSV for this slate. See Upload your entries. |
| Swap icon | Opens Late Swap on supported sports and formats. Disabled until you upload entries. See What Late Swap does. |
| Hero Insights icon | Opens Hero Insights for the slate. Power plan. |
| Build tabs (New Build) | One chip per build on this slate. See Saved builds and tabs. |
| Playbook | Picks a Playbook to run on this slate. Power plan. See Run a playbook in the browser. |

A game card in the strip
Each card shows the two teams, each team's implied total under its abbreviation, and the kickoff time. On a sport with no weather and no pace, the card adds a Proj · Own · Opt line: the average projection, ownership, and optimal share of the game's players. A green number sits in the top quarter of the slate. A red one sits in the bottom quarter. Own stays plain. On MLB and NFL the card shows the game's weather instead: temperature, wind, rain chance, and the weather score with its lean, H+ or P+ on MLB and Air+ or Ground+ on NFL. The Stack IQ WX column shows the score breakdown. Click the card body to open Game Sim for the game. See Game Sim. On MLB, NFL, and NBA, the first card in the strip is the Slate map. Its pins color by the game total or by the weather, and a slate with both offers a switch.
Hover the card for the controls. Each team's implied total gives way to its Filter and Exclude icons, and the bottom of the card shows each team's boost stepper, the same snowflake and flame control the Player Pool shows for a player. The away team's controls sit on the left and the home team's on the right. On a phone the totals stay, and all three controls sit at the bottom of the card, always visible.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Filter icon | Shows only that team in the Player Pool. Click again to stop filtering. Filter both teams to see one game. |
| Exclude icon | Removes the team from the build pool. Click again to add it back. |
| Snowflake | Docks every player on the team one step (5% of projection). MLB pitchers stay as they are. |
| Flame | Boosts every player on the team one step. |
| Step badge | The number on the lit icon is the team's step. It shows only when every player on the team sits on the same step. |
The slate picker
Pick a Sport, then a Site, then a slate from the Classic or Showdown list. A site with no slates for the sport is greyed out. A row with an Open pill already has a tab.
How it works
Tabs belong to a date. When you change the date, the top bar shows that date's tabs. DFS Hero keeps the tabs of the last 14 dates on this device.
Closing a tab deletes nothing. Your Build Settings, your builds, and your uploaded entries for that slate stay saved, and they come back when you open the slate again. Builds are also stored on your account, so a build you made on one device opens on another. See Saved builds and tabs.
A slate link opens the tab directly. Paste the address of an open slate in another browser window and DFS Hero opens the same slate on the right date.
The game filter and the team filter change what the Player Pool shows. They do not change the build. The exclude controls do change the build: an excluded team leaves the pool the optimizer uses. See Lock, exclude, and filter players.
Drag the dividers to resize the three panels. The Contests and Lineups panels start collapsed as vertical rails. Click a rail to expand it. A build in progress pins the Lineups panel open.
Open a slate from a past date
- Click the date button and pick a past date. Dates with a dot have contest results.
- Click Open on a slate under Locked.
- The workspace opens with the final player pool. Build, simulate, and replay against real contest results. See Replay.
Tips
- Open every slate you plan to enter before kickoff with Open All on the Day View, then move between them with the tabs.
- Filter both teams of a game to review it on its own before you set stacks. The position tabs update with the filter.
- Watch the tab's lock time. The workspace itself shows no countdown; the Day View and the Next Lock pill do.
- Close tabs from dates you finished. Nothing is lost.
Troubleshooting
"Failed to load player data" : the player pool did not load. Reload the page.
"No player data available" : the slate exists but has no players yet. Come back later, usually the morning of the slate.
"No slates available for this sport and site." : the slate picker has nothing for that sport and site on the date. Switch the site or the date.
"Select a slate in the current tab first" : the plus button is disabled because a New Slate tab is already open. Pick a slate in that tab, or close it.
"Building isn't supported for this sport/site yet." : the sport, site, and format combination has no build support. See Supported sports and sites.
"This game is postponed - filtering is disabled" : the game is postponed, so its players are not in the pool. You can still exclude the game.
