Auto Swap runs the Swap sheet for you after lock. You set it up once per slate. A few minutes before each lock wave, DFS Hero re-solves your entries with the latest news and prepares a ready swap. You get a push, open the swap, tap Apply & Download, and upload the file on the site. Your entries do not change until you tap Apply or Apply & Download.
Power. Auto Swap is part of the Power plan. On Essential, the Auto tab opens a preview of the feature. See Plans: Essential and Power.
Before you start
- Upload your entries file and fill it from a build. See Upload your entries and Contest Setup and Fill.
- Turn on push notifications on your phone, and keep Auto Swap Ready on in Settings > Notifications. See Notifications.
- Find out which of your contests allow late swap. See "Contests that lock at contest lock" below.
Set it up
- Open the slate and click Swap in the toolbar. On a phone, open the Tools sheet and tap Swap.
- Click the Auto tab.
- Turn on Auto Swap. A new slate starts with Auto Swap off. The first time you turn it on for a slate, DFS Hero fills in your last Auto Swap setup of the same sport. The contests start at every contest, and Build settings starts at Defaults.
- Pick a MODE: Replace outs or Re-optimize.
- Pick the Run time: 10 min or 5 min before each lock wave.
- Check Build settings, Maintain stacks, Swap uniqueness, and Randomness.
- Check the ENTRIES count. Click Customize to untick contests or single entries.
DFS Hero saves each change by itself. You can close the sheet when you are done.
Every control
| Control | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Swap | Turns the automatic swap on or off for this slate. | Off |
| Replace outs | Replaces ruled-out players. Out slots only changes only the out seats. Rebuild the whole lineup re-solves every open seat of an entry that holds an out player. | Out slots only |
| Re-optimize | Re-solves every open seat with the latest news. | Selected |
| Gain bar | Re-optimize only: Small 1%, Medium 2%, or Large 4%. An entry changes only when the swap gains this share of its projection. | Medium 2% |
| Run time | When each run lands: 10 min or 5 min before the wave's first game. 10 minutes gives you more time to upload. | 10 min |
| Build settings | Defaults uses only the site's roster rules and the controls on this tab. A build tab makes the swap follow that build's exposure limits, locks, excludes, salary range, and player groups. DFS Hero saves a copy of the build's settings when you pick it and shows the time. After you change the build, click Save again. On a device that does not have that build tab, for example your phone, the row still shows the saved copy, which still runs, and you can still pick Defaults. | Defaults |
| Maintain stacks | Keeps each lineup's stack together, on the same team when possible. Shown for NFL, CFB, MLB, NHL, and soccer. | On |
| Swap uniqueness | The minimum number of players that differ between swapped lineups: 1, 2, or 3. | 1 |
| Randomness | Off, Minimum, Moderate, or Aggressive. Applies Smart Randomness to the swap. | Off |
| All / Customize | All picks every contest. Customize opens the contest list, where you untick a contest or a single entry. While every contest is picked (after All, or with only single entries unticked), a contest from a later upload is picked too. After you untick a whole contest, a contest from a later upload stays off until you tick it or click All. | Every contest |
When it runs
- No run happens before the slate locks. Until then, change your entries yourself.
- After lock, DFS Hero runs one swap per lock wave, at your run time before the wave. A lock wave is the set of games that start at the same time. The lock clock at the top of the Swap sheet shows one cell per wave.
- Each run uses the news at that time. A new run replaces the last ready swap.
- When two waves are close, the second run starts right after the first wave locks.
- When a game is delayed, its run moves with it.
- A run that changes no entry sends no push.
The status line on the Auto tab shows what comes next, for example "Next run 7:50 PM, 10 minutes before the 8:00 PM wave." After a run with no changes it reads "Last run 6:50 PM: no changes." Each wave gets one run. When the run for the next wave is done, the line names its result, for example "Ran 7:49 PM for the 8:00 PM wave: no changes.", and the next run is for the wave after it. A run starts at least 3 minutes before its wave. When you turn on Auto Swap later than that, the line reads "Auto skips the 8:00 PM wave: too late to run." Swap that wave yourself on the Swap now tab.
Apply a ready swap
- Tap the push Auto swap ready: N entries on the slate. The slate opens with the Swap sheet on the swap. You can also click Swap in the toolbar: while a swap waits, the button turns green and shows the number of entries the swap changes.
- Read the header. It shows when the swap ran, the wave it ran for, and UPLOAD BY with the time left before that wave locks.
- Check the cards and the EXPOSURE table. Click Exclude on a card to keep that entry as it is.
- Tap Apply & Download. DFS Hero saves the swap and downloads the entries file.
- Upload the file on the site before the wave locks. On DraftKings, use the lineup upload page. On FanDuel, upload the file from the contest's entries page.
When you have not applied the swap 2 minutes before its wave, DFS Hero sends one more push. A swap you do not apply before its wave starts expires. When you turn off Auto Swap, the ready swap and its notification in the bell go away. A push that already reached your phone stays there. Turn it back on before the wave to see the swap again. Apply saves only the entries whose changed players have not started. Undo works as after any other swap. A ready swap has no Re-swap, because DFS Hero already solved it with your settings.
How it decides
- An out player always leaves the entry. In the rare case where the only replacement that fits projects lower than the lineup with the out player at 0, the entry keeps the out player.
- In Re-optimize, an entry with an out player always loses him. Its other seats change only when the extra gain clears the gain bar. The bar holds with Randomness on too.
- The swap solves the same way as the Swap sheet: started players stay in their seats, the salary cap and the roster rules hold, and two swapped entries never become the same lineup. Every entry on the slate counts for that check and for exposure, the contests you unticked included. Only the entries you picked change.
- Defaults has no exposure limit of its own. Read the EXPOSURE table before you apply.
Contests that lock at contest lock
Some DraftKings contests lock every player when the contest starts, so they allow no late swap. DFS Hero does not read this setting from the site. A swapped entry in such a contest cannot change on the site. Untick those contests in Customize. The info icon next to ENTRIES repeats this.
When your entries changed
When your entries changed after the run, for example after a fill, an upload, or a swap you made yourself, the sheet shows "The entries changed since this preview. Preview again." Click Preview again. DFS Hero solves the open seats now with your Auto Swap settings, on the same entries a run would pick (with Replace outs, only the entries that hold an out player), and you apply that preview as usual. When you apply it, the old ready swap ends, and the Swap button and its notification in the bell clear. When the swap does not load, click Retry.
Troubleshooting
"A newer automatic swap replaced this one, or its wave started. Press Back to see what is ready now." : a newer run, or the start of the wave, replaced the swap while it saved. Click Back.
"Auto Swap is off for this slate, so this swap was not saved. Turn Auto Swap on to apply it." : you turned off Auto Swap, maybe on another device, while this screen still showed the swap. Turn it on in the Auto tab before the wave, then apply the swap.
"No entry is picked, so the automatic swap has nothing to run." : click All, or tick contests in Customize.
"Your Auto Swap settings did not load." : click Retry.
"Not saved." : the last change did not save. Click Retry next to it.
Every other message is listed in Late swap errors.
