Navigate the app

DFS Hero has one top bar and one home screen, the Day View, where every slate of the day sits in a table row or, in the card view and on a phone, on a card. Each slate you open becomes a tab in the top bar that holds its workspace. Everything else opens from the right side of the top bar or from the command palette.

AvatarOpens the avatar drawer.

Closing a slate tab is safe. Your settings, lineups, and entries for that slate stay saved, and the tab comes back when you open the slate again. See Open and manage slate tabs.

On the Dashboard, Playbooks, Film Room, and Settings pages, the slate tabs give way to a Workspace link, which returns you to the slate tab and build you used last, and the four page links.

The avatar drawer

Click your avatar at the right end of the top bar.

On a phone the drawer also holds a Help & Updates row, because the help button is hidden from the phone top bar.

The command palette

The command palette is the fastest way to move around.

  1. Press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows. The shortcut works from anywhere in the app, also while your cursor sits in a text field.
  2. Type part of a name. Every word you type must appear in the row's name or its related words, so "map" finds Open Slate Map and "patch" finds Open Swap.
  3. Press Enter on the highlighted row, or click it.
  4. Press Escape or the shortcut again to close it.

With nothing typed, the palette shows what you are working on first: the rows you picked recently, your open slates, the builds of the active slate, and the workspace actions. Pages come last.

A row with a key on its right side also has a keyboard shortcut. See the next section.

Switch theme › opens a list of presets plus System. Choosing one applies it at once. Press Backspace in the empty search box to go back.

Keyboard shortcuts

Press Cmd+/ on a Mac or Ctrl+/ on Windows to see every shortcut. You can also press ?, pick Keyboard shortcuts in the command palette, or click Keyboard shortcuts in the avatar drawer.

Single-letter shortcuts do nothing while your cursor sits in a text field or in the Player Pool table. Click on empty space first.

KeysWhat they do
Cmd+K / Ctrl+KOpen or close the command palette.
Cmd+/ / Ctrl+/, or ?Show the keyboard shortcuts.
*Cmd+* / *Ctrl+*Open or close Hero Chat. Power plan.

[ and ] in a slateGo to the previous or next slate tab.
Shift+[ and Shift+] in a slateGo to the previous or next build.
M in a slateOpen the Slate Map.
E in a slateOpen the entries view. Needs uploaded entries.
Option+1, 2, 3 / Alt+1, 2, 3 in a slateShow or hide the Contests, Players, or Lineups panel. Hold Option or Alt to see each closed panel's key at the bottom. These keys do nothing while your cursor sits in a text field.
Cmd+S / Ctrl+S in the playbook editorSave the playbook.
EscapeClose the command palette, a sheet, a popover, or Hero Chat.
Enter in Hero ChatSend the message. Shift+Enter adds a line.
Enter / Escape while renaming a build tabSave the new name, or keep the old one. Double-click a built tab to rename it.

The slate shortcuts work on a computer only, and they do nothing while a sheet or a dialog is open. Chrome on Linux keeps Alt+1 to Alt+8 for its own tabs, so the panel keys do not work there.

The phone layout

On a narrow screen DFS Hero uses the phone layout.

  • The top bar holds the logo, a slate chip, the bell, the Hero Chat button, and your avatar. Tap the chip to switch slates.
  • The help button and the page links live in the avatar drawer. Tap Help & Updates there for the help panel.
  • The Day View shows one slate card per row. The filter row and the stats bar wrap onto several lines, so every control stays in view.
  • In the workspace the Player Pool fills the screen as cards, and a bottom bar holds Lineups, the playbook button, and Build or Rebuild. Lineups opens the lineups panel as a sheet.
  • A Tools button opens the Tools sheet with rows such as Upload Entries, Swap, Hero Insights, and, after a build, Exposure Caps.

Builds and simulations work on a phone, and every build you run there also appears on your desktop. See Browser and device support.

Tips

  • Keep one tab per slate you play and use the tab strip to jump between them.
  • Learn Cmd+K. Open build settings in the palette opens Build Settings on your active slate from anywhere in the app.
  • Press [ and ] to move between slates, and Option+1, 2, 3 to show or hide the panels.
  • Group the Day View By Sport and use Open All to open every slate of a sport as tabs in one click.

Troubleshooting

"Select a slate in the current tab first" : the + button is disabled because an empty New Slate tab already exists. Pick a slate in that tab or close it.

"No slates today" : today has no slates. Pick another date from the calendar.

Cmd+K does nothing : you are outside the app, for example in the help center. Open the app and try again.

A single-letter shortcut does nothing : your cursor is in a text field or in the Player Pool table, or a sheet is open. Click on empty space in the app and try again.

The Hero Chat button is missing : Hero Chat needs the Power plan. See Plans: Essential and Power.
